Hi dcord1. I would like to accept your drawing #47, it really ties in exactly what the young ladies envisioned, and your style helped a lot as well. Thank you for executing my feedback timely and professionally, and if anyone is reading this who needs a logo ... this guy is great! Looking forward to the changes and formats that we discussed. All the best! Debbi

Debbi - Unfortuantely, i've not seen the contest holder interface so i'm not entirely sure how to select a winner; but, looking at other contest that have been decided... it seems like you can just select a design and determine it's the winner. Perhaps you can click on it and the option will pup up, or maybe it's connected to the rating system? Also, when you emailed the admins, did you use the little form that they have on the site, or did you send them an actual email? The reason I ask is because I had to email them directly to get a response (they might be having problems with their contact app.)

The last thing I wanted to add was that if you do want the web address added to any of the designs, just let me know and I'll be happy to add it for you. I usually leave it off when I'm presenting a logo, because traditionally such things aren't actually considered as part of the "logo" design.

Debbi - #70 is another new take on your logo. This is a more sophisticated identity that would sit comfortably in a large variety of marketing settings. I know you have been leaning more towards a more youthful, bright, kind of logo; but, I really think this type of design is something you should strongly consider. A lot of organizations have a much stronger precessence with a nice coporate looking set of marketing materials. Even though it might seem like a smaller operation now, to possible contributors and supports, a nice corporate image can really get them confidant about donating to your efforts. If you do decide, however, that it really isn't the thing for you, I hope that one of my alternative versions will be right on track

Debbi - 99.9% of all the printers in the U.S. will be able to do most of your printing (posters, flyers, business card, etc.) using a CMYK eps file
. Things that arn't being printed, but are being displayed on screen like web graphics, use a RGB format. 99.9% of the time a RGB jpg file will work. I like to supply my clients with all sorts of various formats, just in case, but ultimately you can get most of your production work done with those two files. The only other thing you will need (which I will also provide) will be grayscale and black and white versions of these files. Usually, in a situation like yours, the package I would send over will contain 12-18 different files... but really you only need 2 for most of what you want to do

Debbi,
I can provide you the final logo in any format you need. I'll give you a jpeg for smaller format and an eps for larger ones. You can stretch or shrink eps files to whatvere size you need and the quality won't be affected. Also, if you need any file type, I can easily provide it to you. Good luck with your decision

#69 is designed with an artistic style that makes the iconography look like it was drawn or painted by hand. It's another fun and unique way to present your image.

#67 is like the previous versions, except I put a little extra weight on the details in the balls to make sure the finer lines stand out if you scale the logo down. Since you expressed interest in the initial concept, I'll probably post a few different refinements just to give you a few more options. Thanks again.

Mitch, good thinking. yup, the girls will wear shirts with their names. Jahna and Michelle's names will just be on their backs, and we will have 4 that say COACH. Thank you for the design, but my plan is 1 logo, use it everywhere, and pay a little extra to personalize when I need to, but totally separate from the logo.

Oh, a few more things about getting your shirts printed. The number 1 factor contributing to the cost of your shirts is how many you will have printed. The second factor will be the quality of the shirt they are printed on. Number of colors is pretty much last. However, there are a few things that you want to keep out of your logo or else you might wind up in that photographic (6+) color range without even realizing it. Shadows, like in #47, and gradients, like the gray on the balls of #58, arn't really good to rely on for spot color screen printing. Some place might try to give you the shadow effect by just using a single black color... but it usually winds up muddy looking and not very close to the original artwork. Most places will just want to run a photographic print style on it. Finally, while #57 might have a neat idea, if you are going to be handing these things out, changing the name on your shirts is going to jack the price way up. Like I said earlier, bulk discounts will save you a lot of money on printing, but everytime you change the name on a shirt it will count as a completely new job! There are a lot of good place to get shirts printed from online now for some really economical prices. So, don't forget to shop around before you commit to any specific printer. Sorry for the big wall of text, but I hope the information helps

In response to your earlier post about the "four color rule," you can pretty much all but ignore that. Screen printing on shirts isn't exactly like printing out of your desktop printer or even a traditional printing press. Basically, it does multiple passes on a shirt, applying a different color each time. This is different than your traditional printers which use a combination of 4 inks mixed together to make multiple colors all in one pass. Back in the day, screen printing equiptment wasn't as sophisticated and setting up for multiple passes usually ment more money. However, a lot of places wont differentiate between 2 - 5 colors (it usually cost the same). The exception is if you use 6 or more colors. Bassically, once you hit 6 colors you move into a photographic reproduction setting, which cost a little more but give you an unlimmited amount of colors to work with (except white). So, THE BOTTOM LINE IS, as long as you are under 6 colors, you should be able to find a reputable printer that can give you a economical price.

Debbi - For my newest design, #59, I've tried to match alot of the concepts from your brief and your posts. I did, however, want to make it look really fun and eye catching. I also wanted to make sure the cogs of the gears had were interlocking so that they actually looked like they were all working together and not just randomly spread out. I've given the piece just a little stylistic twist by rotating it slightly, which gives the over-all shape of the logo a nice presentation for a shirt.

Also, one more thing about my design that I wanted to add. This is kind of a draft version of what the final result should be. I really want to put a little more styling in the balls inside the gears, and probably tweak the font a bit. But, I wanted to put the idea out there as soon as possible to get some feedback on it. I know the idea isn't exactly what you put in your brief, so I wanted to make sure I was moving in a good direction before putting a large amount of time into polishing it up.

Debbi - After reading through your brief and going over some of your posts, I thought I would create a design that was a balance between your original concept and my own take on what kind of feel I was getting from your organization. One thing I wanted to note is that while your organization is for kids, a lot of your donations and support will be coming from adults. I really think you should consider a design that can cater to both taste.
In this piece that I have submitted, I use bright, bold, fun colors combined with clean geometric lines and lettering to help achieve this goal. I've also chosen to limit the number of gears to 3. While iconography can really help bring a logo to life, too much of it can make it way too noisy and ultimately detract from its purpose. There are a lot of good ideas from your original brief, however, that did get incorporated into the design. Obviously, the original art's idea to have sports balls in the shape of gears was a leading factor. Additionally, each of the gears is connected in a sense that each one is helping to turn the other. We also have the name right justified to the iconography.
One last thing, something that I like to tell all my clients that I do design work, is to remember that while a designer maybe designing a logo for you; ultimately, the logo is for the organization. It is important to not only look for something that you want, but also something that will make the organization appear strong and professional. I hope this information helps

Okay, Debbi! Got my design up. I hope it represents your organization well, without costing an arm and a leg to print. It's simple, professional, gets your point across, and is an all-around fun design. It was fun to make! I would suggest clicking the entries and scrolling down to read the descriptions I put on them. Good luck with your decision!
@dcord1: I like your color options and placement of the type. The only thing that bothers me is that the football gear is football-shaped. I get it, but it makes the gear unfunctional, don't you think? Not that these gears will be turning, or anything, but it's just a though. I like it, though, it's nice!

Just the words on the bottom. and the bottom allgearedup.org lowercase and a bit more right justified .... UNLESS you can make the letters hug around the picture ... definitely though, allgearedup.org should be small font and lowercase in any attempts on this contest. All caps on top is cool! July 14, 2009 8:40 PM
Debbi, I just also wanted to say that you might want to keep the color count down to a max of like 4 colors. The design that was just submitted MitchGraphix (#24) has 14 colors. That would make the printing process impeccably expensive. Most places consider 8 colors an extended maximum. But that is if you want to get it screen printed (over all best quality of printing). If you want it to be simulated processed, you can have as many colors as you want, but they charge a bit more sometimes, and the quality isn't as good, as the colors fade and it cracks with the stretching of the shirt, which is something you wouldn't want in an active wear attire. Not to poke holes in your design, Mitch, but you might want to re-use some colors, and make sure they're pantone to reduce costs.

Hey, Debbi, are you open to change, and ideas? Because this site's loaded with people who can offer up plenty of marketable notions and concepts. The reason you have only gotten two separate artists is because you've got this picture in your head of what you want, but really, people might not know what they want until they see it. It's really nice that you had someone associated to you draw something up, but coming to this site means you wanted something more than what you could originally get. I guess I've gotten a little bit off-track, but I guess I'm just gunna' end with the point that I want to offer up some ideas that I think will get your point across, look professional, and be easily printed and usable in many venues. Just asking you to hear me out on this. You'll see my designs quite rapidly, as I've noticed that your contest is ending shortly. Good luck!

You can try scrolling over the ones you want so it makes them larger, then hitting the "print screen button" on your keyboard. This essentially copies the screen at that moment. Then, go into Microsoft Word and hit "control v" or "edit, paste" and it will paste the screen. If that doesnt work, you can let me know which ones you want and I can try to email over JPEGS to you.

dcord 1 ... great work! On #5 can you change the ball sizes (like you did in #7) and remove one of the baseballs and one of the volleyballs. (maybe that will look less, but maintain the idea) The font is too far to the right and too big in relationship to the graphic. It is not my favorite font but I do like that it is kind of rounded and filled in. This layout is what I will likely use because it is similar to the image that was drawn by the co-founder (she is 17) Let’s make this one better … if there is a way! The graphic will be used on our website, and on printed material. Imagine it printed on the side of a tshirt like a Ralph Lauren or Lacoste logo. (I don’t know which side that is!)

Dkap, you have the idea. The Org is called all geared up ... they give sports 'gear' to kids in need .... and they want the balls to look like gears that move around each other.... that can't move without the help of the others.
The gears here ( http://cubsandme.com/images/gear_shape.gif ) show the edges that I am talking about. You don't have to do 3D of course!
Also, the football is the center, but the size should be like real life. so the tennis and baseballs would be smaller and the football soccer and volleyballs would be similar ... all relative.
Make sense?
Thank you so much! Do you have text fonts that I can choose from?
All the best!
