from another reviewer within the crit team of this project: the obvious materiality introduced by design number 10 (and nine) has been carefully extrapolated for number 24; we still see some indication of folding aluminum, while not being bogged down by conventional interpretations of child-friendly diagrams and typography. as brooke previously mentioned, the design symbol (icon) should be able to identify the business (as a pediatric dental practice) without any additional text, yet we strive for something less literal than smiling children or readily-decipherable translations of our acronym (aas.) for example, while the type font of number 26 is somewhat stronger than its predecessor (number 5), we would still like to see enhancement of the three-dimensional characteristics of the icon. Please note the curvature of (the "smile" within) number 5 helps to enhance perspective, yet it will simply not compete with text that assigns heirarchy (such as in numbers 10 and 24). by contrast, number 27 seems to deviate from this original scheme in that it introduces several superfluous elements (the dots in earlier iterations seem to reinforce continuity between icon and text). in relation to this, i believe we can comfortably assert the new twists and color added to (the icon in) number 30 are not necessary for clarifying the planar text we love so much. in an attempt to wrap this up neatly for brooke, i will try to limit my final suggestions to the following: ***type-font and proportions are admirable and elegant in recent examples: numbers 23, 24, and 27 stand-out from earlier attempts (10 and 13) ***while the concept of folding aluminum (paper) is well executed in "lindagin's" work, there is still a noteworthy sense of depth in "alisha's" finest examples. ***distillation of the icon from numbers 27 and 28 may prove to be the best direction for our imagery... our business model/architecture supports the simplicity of form (and color), while recognizing the importance of a (loose) affiliation with characters: a a s. ***ABOVE ALL ELSE: we greatly appreciate the effort displayed by designers up to this review, and hope you continue to push your creative ingenuity to new levels during the final stages of this contest!!

#27, #30 - lindagin, thanks so much! these designs are even better than anything else we've seen. you're really running with the unique & fun attributes of the mobiles, and we're very excited! it's great that in #27 we can see an "S" - our goal is still to have an icon that can stand alone & represent the business, and we're starting to see that from you! and #30 is really fun - I like the interaction between the graphic & text, although feel that the "ribbon" above the word "all" is maybe a bit much... anyway, you're going to make this a tough choice!!! we do prefer the color palette in the original designs (purple/gray), but it's fun to see the diversity with other colors!

designbox: this is a harder project than I anticipated... we want a graphic or image that could be used with or without the business name spelled out. we service high end clients, and want a logo / business identity that catches attention, but isn't childish, like most child directed businesses. I can't say that we've seen anything elsewhere that would help give direction... we are open to anything - just want to be impressed! The biggest suggestion I can give is that we want something that coordinates with the mobiles that are our feature decoration & part of the interior design of the office (http://www.mobileguys.com/arial-hijinx.html)... Thanks so much! Can't wait to see what you put together!

CH I received your reqest to enter this contest. I am a little unsure with the condridiction of your creative brief. Just not clear to me?? You mention that you are looking for a logo that shows off our fun & modern pediatric dental office... and one that is obviously targeted at children, right? but then your favorites are not really targeted at kids? Not that you have alot to choose from. Could you better describe what you mean by "targeted at children?" Thanks

CH can you eliminate and/or rate please

Regal Touch Designs --- you're right, the designs you commented on aren't directed at children, but the design is unique, and something we're interested in exploring further. We don't want a childish design... nothing "disney" or "cartoonish", and are finding that this desire is harder to produce than we'd expected. Thanks for your question!

I don't get #9 #10 or #13 . How are these designs kid related? Can please explain this to me?

DESIGNERS: we are still hoping to see something that emulates our feature decoration, an acrobatic mobile (http://www.mobileguys.com/arial-hijinx.html). The goal is something unique & graphic, that "targets" children but is sophisticated & classic! THANKS EVERYONE!

#14, #15, #17, #18 - we like your original design better... these new ones look too "disney" - thanks so much for the extra work!

#11 - this design is fun, but too busy for what we're looking for... the doctor really liked the single person you'd created with your first logo - we are just looking for something a bit more "high-end" - if you could work with your first design & make it look more like the mobile, that would be awesome!
Alisha March 14, 2010 12:03 PM
okay, I will...do as you ask.
designbox March 14, 2010 8:33 AM
This contest is suspect... for a fake. I've never seen a CH with such strange posts over such crappy work. What gives who would be crazy enough to make their own contest to win? Strange.
lindagin March 13, 2010 8:23 PM
ok no problem I will work in that thanks for the feeed :D

#9-#10 - This design rocks! Everyone in our office loves it, but we feel that it doesn't target children enough... could you please give us a few other options, but stick with this basic idea (slightly brighter colors, maybe a spiral effect instead of the solid circles)? We're really excited! Thanks!

#4-#7 (Alisha) - our favorite is #5! Can we see it in blue/silver/brown-red? Also, the letters for "AAS" are great... could you try a few different fonts for "All About Smiles"? We want something that's very playful & obviously targeted at children, but love that your design isn't childish! Thanks!

#3 - the coloring is quite a bit better... we'd like to see a more sophisticated font for "all about smiles"... we'd also love to see the "aas" thinner, more like the mobiles. Thanks so much! We like where this is headed!
EMMC March 12, 2010 3:11 PM
#2 Do you have some photoshop or illustrator files with the colors you would like me to use.

#2 - There are elements here that I really like... could we see it with the colors described in the posting info? Also, it would be nice to see a thinner graphic - less child-like. Thanks!

#1 - Thanks for your creativity! We're looking for something more modern/sleek/sophisticated - with a graphic & text that can be used either together or separate. Please take a look at our feature decoration, which we would like our logo to emulate! http://www.mobileguys.com/arial-hijinx.html THANKS!
